I haven’t written one of these before, and I know I’m not the most consistent blogger but I figured I should start keeping track of what I do each month. So here goes:
Books I Read
Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
This book was great! You can read my review here.
I bought this as soon as I finished Illuminae, and now I can’t wait for Obsidio. Thanks for adding yet another thing for me to wait in agony for, Ms. Kaufman and Mr. Kristoff.
(ARC) All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater
Released on October 10, 2017 – review to come.
I was lucky enough to borrow this as a print ARC from a friend, and I loved it a great deal. The world, the characters, the writing–everything was gorgeous.
(ARC) They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Released on September 5, 2017 – review to come.
I honestly wasn’t sure whether I would like this book even as I requested it. But I loved every second. I definitely want to buy a print copy when it’s released! Along with Adam Silvera’s other books, tyvm.
(ARC) Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows
Released on September 12, 2017 – review to come.
I finished this book right before I went camping, which is good because I probably wouldn’t have finished it during the trip. This book was alright, I’ll have more thoughts on it later. I did like that there was not a single white person in sight, however.
Other Things I Did
For one, I went to The Lockhart and you can read about that here. It was super fun, and the Harry Potter drinks were amazing!
Second, I celebrated my 25th birthday and I got an amazing set of tarot cards and the Hufflepuff copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. My friends are the best, I know.
Third, I finished playing Dragon Age: Inquisition. It was the first time I ever finished a proper video game! I really loved it – the characters, the world, everything. So naturally, I immediately started a second playthrough so I could romance someone else and see what happens when I make some different choices 😉
I also discovered Maggie Stiefvater’s Spotify page. She posted it on tumblr a few weeeks ago, and her playlists are phenomenal. She has playlists for her all of her books and main characters–she even has one called “Gansey On Fire“. My favourite was “BLUE“and “Radio Saints“, the latter which I listened to while reading the corresponding book, All the Crooked Saints.
And then this past week, I went camping! I did not do much reading, but I played lots of board games and did more cooking in the dark than I would like to ever do again. Also, pro tip: do yourself a favour and dip your roasted marshmallows in Bailey’s Irish cream. It makes them so much better.
First stop, Fan Expo! That’s happening tomorrow (Sept. 2) and I am unbelievably excited. Star Trek dresses, guys. Star. Trek. Dresses.
I also start classes again, and I’m pretty pumped. I really enjoyed my first semester and I’m taking a couple of children’s publishing courses this time around, so I am looking forward to those. I’m excited about Copy Editing as well, even though I heard it was difficult. But I’ll try my best [insert anime-heroine speech here].
I’m also looking forward to my TV shows coming back and Star Trek: Discovery. I even caved and am paying for cable so I can watch it on TV. I’m an idiot, but I am a happy one.
Other than that, the only titles currently on my immediate TBR are:
- Here We Are Now by Jasmine Warga – Released Nov. 7th (ARC)
- Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas – Released Sept. 5th
- Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo – Released Aug. 29th
Plus, I really want to finish American Gods by Neil Gaiman and A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin. Both of these were started and then temporarily abandoned a while ago, so I may have to restart them. Let’s hope I get to all of them!
