#HogwartsReunion: The Chamber of Secrets

Okay, I totally thought I'd written this already but apparently not! And I'm already on book four so I am very much behind. The Chamber of Secrets was a super fun read, but it's not in my top 3 HP books (which isn't really saying much because it's still one of my favourite books ever,… Continue reading #HogwartsReunion: The Chamber of Secrets

Book Review: Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she somehow managed to land a boyfriend, he doesn’t actually know anything about her. When Penny heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind. Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he’s a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him.  When Sam and Penny cross paths it’s less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams without the humiliating weirdness of having to see each other.

#HogwartsReunion: The Philosopher’s Stone

I'm going to be real honest--these are taking me longer to read that I hoped. But in my defense, I've had a busy month! I've started listening to the audiobooks as well so that should speed up the process a bit. I really enjoyed this re-read, but I have to say that reading these as… Continue reading #HogwartsReunion: The Philosopher’s Stone

When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back.

#HogwartsReunion: a Harry Potter (Re)Read-a-Thon!

First things first--happy birthday to my favourite angsty boy, Harry freakin' Potter and his creator, JK Rowling.  I've been planning this for a while and found a few others who had been planning on doing the same so we have joined forces! I'll be listing everyone's info at the bottom of this post, so if… Continue reading #HogwartsReunion: a Harry Potter (Re)Read-a-Thon!

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders... but her father isn't a very good one. Free to lend and reluctant to collect, he has loaned out most of his wife's dowry and left the family on the edge of poverty--until Miryem steps in. Hardening her heart against her fellow villagers' pleas, she sets out to collect what is owed--and finds herself more than up to the task. When her grandfather loans her a pouch of silver pennies, she brings it back full of gold.
But having the reputation of being able to change silver to gold can be more trouble than it's worth--especially when her fate becomes tangled with the cold creatures that haunt the wood, and whose king has learned of her reputation and wants to exploit it for reasons Miryem cannot understand.
